Drive to Thrive
United Way, in collaboration with the McElhattan Foundation and Galaxy Federal Credit Union, launched the Drive to Thrive Program in 2024. This program aims at transforming transportation access for local residents by offering reliable and obtainable vehicle financing. It provides a solution for individuals struggling to secure a loan and empowers them to improve their employment status, financial stability, and overall quality of life.
The program officially opened in 2025, when United Way began taking referrals from businesses, non-profit organizations, and other pillars of the community. Individuals may submit their applications to United Way, where a staff member, along with a volunteer-based committee, will review the submission and determine whether the individual qualifies for the service.
In addition to keeping up with their loan responsibilities, participants are required to take budgeting classes and financial literacy workshops. They will continue to work with a United Way case worker for the duration of the loan to ensure they are managing their financial and personal responsibilities.
