Hair Affair woman cutting hairFor the past six years, United Way, in collaboration with local salons has held The Back to School: Hair Affair. This program provides Venango County, school-age students with free haircuts and school supplies at the beginning of the school year.

Parents, or caregivers, are able to schedule their child’s appointment at a time and location that suits their schedule. This may be done by calling United Way at 814-676-6545 once registration is open. Upon arrival, children are greeted by a receptionist and receive the full salon experience. Registration is required to ensure the most efficient and impactful results, for both the stylists and the families.

Since the implementation of the program United Way has seen the difference a haircut can make in a child’s confidence and self-esteem. It also helps relieve a large financial burden for families, especially ones with multiple school-age children.

In 2024, participating salons included:

  • Brenda’s Salon
  • Clark’s Clippers
  • DC Salon
  • Razor’s Edge
  • Underground Beauty Lounge

Backpacks, school supplies, and water bottles were donated by Bill Baker.

There are no income requirements to schedule.
